Adventure in New Orleans

This blog is about my time photographing and videoing Destiny, her mother, and sister in one of my favorite cities: New Orleans!

We actually got this picture after leaving Louisiana on our last day. We had already crossed into Texas, decided we wanted the picture, and turned around. Worth it.

I had been to New Orleans before, 9 years ago during a high school band trip. Then, we were not allowed to even look down Bourbon St. Too much of a liability for band club boosters. This time, however, I was a 25 year old adult. I've found it familiar to my growing up in Vegas with how many drunk and disorderly people there were walking about.

We left around 8pm on a Thursday and didn't get out of Dallas traffic until about 11pm. Because of the delay, we stopped at a hotel and continued our drive in the morning.

When we finally arrived to our hotel, Destiny worked her magic and got our room upgraded for free; 44th floor river view. Incredible! What amazing service.

Mama was afraid of the height. I love this one.

Our first day started with walking around the city. We stopped by the river, went to the French Quarter and ate oysters. We were able to get a few mommy daughter portraits during the day, however, I wasn't happy with the lighting, so we mainly walked around and enjoyed the jazz until the sun wasn't so harsh.

When exploring, I enjoy staying behind when walking so I can capture things I see and not make everyone stop for me. This practice tends to work out best, as long as I can find everyone when I'm done.
I really liked this man's shoes and hat juxtaposed to the trolly.

We went back to the hotel, changed, and continued our Nawlin's Adventure. It was Desireé's 16th birthday, and the front desk sent up a gift basket in celebration. A nice card, some discounts, candy skull and awesome mug; what kindess and welcoming service. Way to go Sheraton Hotel.

Once it got dark, we went on a haunted cemetery tour and visited some pretty gnarly cemeteries. One even had bones present still from Hurricane Katrina.

The last full day was Easter Sunday. New Orleans is notorious for day parades, and the Easter parade didn't disappoint. Everyone seemed to wear either beautiful sun hats in their Sunday best, or tutus with bunny ears. I had beads thrown and hit me in the face while shooting from the balcony.

Quick mirror selfie before shooting night time shots. Kinda scary, to be honest. The grain! I tested the flash in the hotel room, and honestly the portrait I caught of Destiny is one of my favorites.

Remember, make time and take control of your passion. More importantly, take dorky pictures of yourself and post them with your own watermark.

Check out my behind the scenes video I put together. The intro could be better, but I'm still getting used to putting myself out there via the Tube of You. Also check out the music video we shot while Destiny and I were running around like hoodlums.
